Wilton Beaver Wrestling Established
The Wilton Wrestling program has a proud history that began in 1959, established by Jack Lowther, who was then the principal of Wilton High School. Under his leadership, the program laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of Wilton athletics. After a couple years, Lowther passed the reins to Coach Dale Kreimeyer, a dedicated and long-serving member of the Wilton School staff. Kreimeyer not only coached wrestling but also contributed as a football and track coach and served as the school’s athletic director for many years, leaving an indelible mark on the community and its student-athletes.
Coach Kreimeyer built an outstanding wrestling program, fostering a culture of hard work and determination. He laid the foundation for many future state champions and helped establish Wilton as a competitive force in Iowa wrestling. After Kreimeyer, the program was carried forward by a succession of exceptional coaches, including Coach Wayne Minor, Steve Shirk, Nick Dohrmann, Kevin Brisker, Gabe Boorn, and Mike Coss. Each of these coaches played a vital role in maintaining the program’s tradition of excellence and developing athletes who competed at the highest levels.
Wilton’s strong support for wrestling extends beyond the boys’ program. In the fall of 2022, the school proudly introduced a Girls Wrestling program, recognizing the growing popularity of the sport. Girl’s wrestling had been gaining momentum across the state, and it was a natural fit for Wilton to embrace this exciting opportunity. The program is led by Coach Dakota Hargrave-Lamaack, with Assistant Coach Shane Boorn, both of whom are committed to building a competitive and inclusive team.
Today, Wilton’s wrestling program continues to thrive, with a rich history of success and a bright future ahead. From its beginnings under Jack Lowther to the introduction of girls wrestling, the program reflects the community’s dedication to fostering athletic excellence and supporting its student-athletes.
